Rescue Northwest offers a full line of technical rescue classes. Please call for details if your department or squad is interested in hosting a class. All fees are based on class size. Content is listed below, however classes may be customized to meet your department's specific needs.  

Unless otherwise noted, all courses listed here comply with NFPA 1670, Operations and Training for Technical Rescue Incidents, 1999 edition.

Rope Rescue I:   20 hours                                                     Cost: $295

This course meets requirements for awareness and operations levels, and will provide the student with the ability to approach rope rescue situations safely and conduct rope rescue operations in low-angle situations, as well as practice safe rescuer skills in high-angle situations.

 

Skills taught include:
  • Size up
  • Equipment selection
  • Knots
  • Anchors
  • Ascending and descending
  • Raising and lowering systems
  • Patient Packaging
  • Litter tending in the low-angle environment

 


Rope Rescue II:   20 hours                                                     Cost: $295

This course meets requirements for technician level, with the exception of Highline Rope Systems, and will provide the student with the ability to conduct rescue operations in most high-angle situations.

 

Skills taught include:
  • Advanced anchor systems
  • Advanced haul systems
  • Raising and lowering systems for the high-angle environment
  • Knot passing 
  • High directional anchors
  • "Pick-off" rescues
  • Litter rigging and tending in the high-angle environment

 

 


Rope Rescue III:   20 hours                                                     Cost: $295

With the addition of this course, the student will have met all requirements for technician     level. It will challenge the student's rigging skills and problem-solving abilities, and will provide the student with the ability to conduct and/or manage high-angle rescue operations.

Skills taught include:
  • Advanced litter tending
  • Sloping highlines (telphers)
  • Horizontal highlines
  • Lead climbing
  • Other ascending techniques

 

 


Confined Space Awareness:   8 hours                                Cost: $125

This course provides the student with the ability to recognize confined spaces and related hazards, prevent further injury, and summon additional resources. 

 

Skills taught include:

  • Size up
  • Hazard identification
  • Non-entry retrieval
  • Site control and scene management
  • Overview of applicable state & federal regulations
  • Overview of NFPA 1670 applicable chapters

 

 

Confined Space Rescue Operations:   24 hours             Cost: $395

In addition to the curriculum of Awareness, this course will provide the student with training in pre-entry operations, operation management, and limited entry into confined spaces.

  • Awareness training
  • Atmospheric monitoring
  • Ventilation
  • Isolation techniques
  • Selection and use of PPE
  • Victim packaging
  • Anchor systems
  • Raising and lowering systems
  • Respiratory protection

 


Emergency Trench Shoring & Rescue:   16 hours         Cost: $275

This course provides the student with the ability to approach trench rescue scenes safely and apply emergency trench shoring and rescue skills in various types of trenches in order to safely perform a rescue or recovery. 

 

Subjects taught include:

  • Identification of types of soil and trench collapses
  • Initial non-entry operations
  • Shoring materials
  • Emergency trench shoring
  • OSHA-compliant shoring
  • Basic medical care
